La persona que buscamos es... MARIA GAETANA AGNESI

María Gaetana Agnesi  fue una filósofa y matemática italiana.

Nació el 16 de mayo de 1718 en Milán. 

Desde niña habló francés, latín, griego y hebreo entre otras otras lenguas. A los 9 años escribe un discurso defendiendo la educación de las mujeres.

Reemplazó a su padre en la cátedra de matemáticas de la Universidad de Bolonia cuando éste estuvo enfermo siendo la primera mujer en ocupar una cátedra de matemáticas. Dedicó su vida al estudio de las matemáticas.

Su trabajo más importante fue "Instituzioni Analithe" (Instituciones Analíticas), basado en cálculo diferencial e integral y publicado en 1748. Fue conocida también como La Bruja de Agnesi por una mala traducción de su libro de la palabra versoria (nombre latino de la curva de una función), por versiera otra palabra que significa abuela del diablo o bruja, de ahí viene el nombre adoptado también por la curva, La Bruja de Agnesi. 

María Gaetana Agnesi falleció el 9 de enero de 1799 en Milán.

Maria Gaetana Agnesi was an Italian philosopher and math.

She was born on the 16th May 1718 in Milan.

Since she was a girl she spoke French, Latin, Greek and Hebrew and other languages. At 9 years writing a speech defending the education of women.

She replaced her father in the cathedra of mathematics at the University of Bolonia when he was sick being the first woman to hold a cathedra of mathematics. She dedicated her life to the study of mathematics.

Her most important work was "Instituzioni Analithe" (Analytical Institutions) based on differential and integral calculation and published in 1748. It was also known as The Witch of Agnesi by a poor translation of her book of the word (Latin name of the curve of a function), by versiera another word for devil´s grandmother or witch, hence the name also adopted by the curve, the Witch of Agnesi.

Maria Gaetana Agnesi died on the 9th January 1799 in Milan.
